“ Well coordinated disability management and ergonomic programs can help keep employees healthy and productive at work — and, when disability or injury occurs — can return them to good health and work as quickly and as safely as possible.”
Proactive disability management programs focus on plans that prevent time away from work due to illness or injury and can include: Ergonomic Assessment, Specialist and Assessment referral, Treatment Coordination, Modified or Transitional Duties as well as Return to Work Coordination
PHYSICAL DEMANDS ANALYSIS AND JOB MODIFICATION
Detailed written analysis of physical and psychological demands of the job, including strength levels, body positions, tools, equipment, skills required and identification of transitional duties.
For employees with repetitive strain symptoms, or recovering from illness or injury, ergonomic assessment will determine whether assistive devices, job site modifications, transitional duties or recommendations regarding the layout of the workstation, will remove barriers to work, permitting a quicker and safer return to work.
EARLY INTERVENTION AND RETURN TO WORK COORDINATION
Martin Disability Management Services encourages the medical management of illness or injury as early as possible, to ensure appropriate support in rehabilitation and return to work.
As early as 3-5 consecutive days of absence, or immediately after injury, an employee’s suitability for participation in an early intervention program can be assessed.
Graduated or modified duties will be coordinated with the employee, employer, health care professional's, WCB case manager, and the union representatives.
Progressive Goal Attainment Program
PGAP is a standardized ten (10)-week intervention program, provided by a PGAP trained clinician (4th Edition), whose goal is to reduce psychosocial barriers to rehabilitation progress, promote re-integration into life activities, increase quality of life, and facilitate return-to-work.
These goals are achieved through targeted treatment of psychosocial risk factors, structured activity scheduling, graded-activity involvement, goal-setting, problem-solving, and motivational enhancement.
ERGONOMIC ASSESSMENT AND CONSULTING
Many work-related musculoskeletal problems are caused by poor working practices and can be prevented or at least reduced. Ergonomics aims to fit the work to the worker.
Martin Disability Management Services offers comprehensive ergonomic assessments to identify and eliminate risk factors that may be causing, or may cause in the future, health problems resulting in reduced work performance or disability.
Services are offered on a case-by-case, contract, or retainer basis.
VOCATIONAL ASSESSMENT AND PLANNING SERVICES
Transferable Skills Analysis: Review of skills developed through education, training and experience that can be used in other occupations where little or no formal training is required.
Vocational Testing: Aptitude, interest, achievement, and personality testing.
Vocational Assessment: Detailed review of current medical status, education, training, vocational history, vocational interests and hobbies, and assessments including aptitude, interest and achievement testing, to assist in the development of realistic vocational rehabilitation plans.
